Event description
Friends of the Parks' 2020 VIRTUAL Luncheon and Conference - Parks as Democracy? What's in a Name

About this Event

This year the Parks as Democracy? Luncheon and Conference will be hosted on Zoom. Although we will be gathering virtually, the conference will be organized in the same fashion as it has years prior with a 2-day gathering around lunch and workshops highlighting our signature projects to follow. Please see below for the list of conversations we will be hosting.

Click "Select a Date" to reserve a spot and get access to Zoom credentials. All panels and workshops are free. Donations representing participation in the annual luncheon are warmly accepted.

October 16, 12-2pm : Parks, Statues, and the State of Our Democracy

October 17, 12-2pm: Defund? Reimagine? Examining Park Investments, Policing, and Park Security Models

October 23, 12-2pm: DuSable as Chicago's Founder: What to Make of the Title and Whether it Matters

October 24, 12-2pm : CDF What? A Pollution Dump on the Lakefront

Nov 1, 4-6pm : Steelworkers and Remembrance: Day of the Dead Amidst Environmental Injustice, a Civil Rights Uprising, and COVID-19

Like many non-profits, the virus forced us to reschedule our in-person gala and in-person luncheon which are historically key components of our annual fundraising. So while this year’s Parks as Democracy? What’s in a Name Luncheon and Conference are being offered virtually for free, we warmly welcome the support of any of our friends of the parks who are able to contribute.

Victoria Ranney, one of the two co-founders of Friends of the Parks, and scholar on Frederick Law Olmsted, authored “Olmsted in Chicago” in 1972. We’re excited to offer copies of the book for those who contribute $75 towards the luncheon. In honor of our 45th year of incorporation, the first 45 contributors will get a SIGNED copy! Click "select a date" to register for the luncheon and purchase your ticket for the booklet.
