About this Event

Former Nevada U.S. Senator Harry Reid will take part in a special virtual screening premiere and Q&A session ahead of the “The New West and the Politics of the EnvironmentKCET Original documentary airdate which explores how the iconic Nevada Senator set the foundations for new ways to settle water wars with respect for Native Americans, protect endangered species and usher in a just transition to renewable energy.

The event will be hosted by Tom Axtell (General Manager of Vegas PBS) and will feature additional panelists Juan Devis (KCET/Link TV Chief Creative Officer), Joe Ely (Stetson Engineers Director of Indian Project Development and former Chairman of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe) and Mauricia Baca (Get Outdoors Nevada Executive Director). The panel will be moderated by the documentary’s executive producer Jon Christensen, Adjunct Assistant Professor and Journalist-in-Residence at UCLA. A special introduction will be given by Nevada's U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.

The virtual screening event at 4pm PACIFIC TIME is in collaboration with Vegas PBS and UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law. The full 90-minute documentary will be available for all registrants to view at their leisure during the day of the virtual event via a confidential screening link that will be sent a day in advance.

The feature-length documentary, “The New West and the Politics of the Environment” will premiere in Southern California on Tues. Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. PT on KCET and Thurs. Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. PT on PBS SoCal.

National airdates kick off Wed., Sept. 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH Network 9410) as well as on Sun., Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET on WORLD Channel.

A special airing in the Las Vegas region will take place on Mon. Nov. 23 at 9 p.m. on KLVX (Vegas PBS) in Las Vegas.

The film is co-produced by the Laboratory for Environmental Narrative Strategies (LENS) at UCLA .
