11th Annual Bank of Guam IFIT 5K Run/Walk
Event Information
Description
Together with Guam Cancer Care, Bank of Guam® is proud to announce plans for its 11thAnnual IFIT 5KRun/Walk scheduled for Saturday,March 12, 2016 at the Bank of Guam Headquarters in Hagåtña. This year’s event will be held on our founding anniversary and during Chamorro month, and so we will be celebrating our culture in this and all future IFIT 5Ks by incorporating a Chamorro cultural theme.
The Bank’s 44 years bring with it many milestone accomplishments in our island’s history. We have grown from $1 million to $1.5 billion, a significant achievement we could not have accomplished without the support of our regional community. We have improved healthcare by financing medical clinics, and we have improved the quality of our education by partnering with University of Guam and the Guam Community College. We have provided many opportunities to homeowners, and our economy has been stimulated by our work with small businesses.
Not one of us can say we have not been touched by family, a friend,a coworker who has either over come or continues to recover from this tragic disease. With your help, we can provide local assistance where it is needed the most here at home.
We are proud of our flourishing partnership with Guam Cancer Care - a non-profit organization whose primary focus and mission is to provide direct support services for Guam residents afflicted by cancer in the form of patient navigation, direct financial assistance, transportation, screening and early detection. Since their inception, Guam Cancer Care has brought in outside resources in excess of $2.63 million for Guam cancer patients, and has issued over $613,238 in direct financial assistance grants. This is in addition to thousands of dollars in free nutritional supplements, patient transportation and patient supplies that are given to hundreds of cancer patients each and every week.
In particular, funding provided to Guam Cancer Care from last year’s event helped launch IFIT ECHO, a program designed for the GDOE high school curriculum to provide cancer education and service learning hours. IFIT ECHO works with Science, Health, Nursing and Math teachers “to create an army of student advocates.” IFIT ECHO - learn it, live it, pass it on - is expecting 300-500 students to participate this year.
With many thanks in advance. Si Yu’os Ma’ase.
