Judith KatzJudith Katz began her nonprofit career learning about the legal framework surrounding the sector, as an assistant to corporate attorneys specializing in tax-exempt organizations. She then took an opportunity to engage her passion for human rights at the ACLU of Illinois. She cut her teeth on immigrant rights issues through her friendships with Oaxacans that she met through her love of marathoning, and ended up taking three years to learn Spanish and permaculture in Oaxaca, until the riots in 2006. Judith deepened her learning of open space conservation issues while working within the US Department of the Interior and the SCA in Nevada and Washington State.

While in Washington, Judith began sharing her passion for NVC, sometimes also called empathic communication, a process developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg. Her first sharings were with a Toastmasters Club, and then grew to include church groups, government workers, change agents, and nonprofit organizations.

After moving to California, Judith co-founded the Connection Action Project, which works to integrate social action, empathic communication and spirituality into the mainstream. Judith is also the part-time Development Director at Bay Nature Institute. She graduated from the Alameda County Leadership Academy in March, 2011, and is a leader in organizing her neighborhood disaster preparedness team.

Judith received her Bachelor's Degree in Pre-law Humanities at Michigan State University in the Honors College, and was summa cum laude in her Nonprofit Management Master's program at Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies.

Connection Action ProjectThe Connection Action Project is a regional network of engaged leaders integrating spirituality, empathic communication and social action. CAP has produced a series over events over the last year and a half promoting reconnection to each other and nature through dialogic processes, and art. The project also offers workshops, meditations and consultations to individuals and organizations.
