The 10th Annual Stephen H. Schneider Lecture will host keynote speaker Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022. Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali is an internationally renowned environmental justice activist, policymaker, and speaker. He worked at the EPA for 24 years before resigning to found the Hip-Hop Caucus, where he led their work on issues of climate, environmental justice, civic engagement, and more. His advocacy focuses on revitalizing vulnerable communities and securing health, economic, and environmental justice.

The Schneider Lecture honors Dr. Stephen H. Schneider, Stanford professor and world-renowned climate scientist who passed away in 2010. Dr. Schneider is survived by Dr. Terry Root, researcher and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment.

The Schneider Lecture is presented by Students for a Sustainable Stanford (SSS) and co-sponsored by the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment. SSS is grateful for the support of the Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity Department, CS + Social Good, the Environmental Justice Working Group, and Stanford Earth DEI.


This year's lecture will host Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali virtually. Stanford students, faculty, and community members may choose to attend in person at STLC (Sapp Center for Teaching & Learning) 111 or virtually. Members of the public are welcome to attend the lecture virtually only. Please register for a ticket based on your preferred attendance. Zoom attendees will receive a link prior to the lecture. In-person audience members should bring their Eventbrite tickets with them to attend the lecture.


Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali is a Thought-Leader and Activist committed to the fight for environmental justice and economic equity. Mustafa Santiago Ali is internationally renowned as a Keynote Speaker, Trainer, Leader, Community Liaison and Facilitator specializing in Social Justice issues focused on revitalizing our most vulnerable communities. Throughout his career, Mustafa Ali has conducted over 1,000 presentations worldwide, including speeches, guest lecturers and trainings. He has also worked with over 500 domestic and international communities to secure environmental, health and economic justice.
