Event description
108 Sun Salutations for Summer Solstice

About this Event

Summer is officially here! Completing 108 sun salutations is a physical yet devotional practice – a moving meditation. It's certainly a work-out, but more importantly, it's a work-IN. Through this practice, we will honor the lessons learned during the previous season, let go of what no longer serves us, and create space to invite the energy we do need to allow the seeds of our intentions to blossom.

Why 108? This number is sacred in various traditions and cultures around the world. Here are a few examples:

  • In Ayurvedic medicine, there are 108 sacred energy centers in the body.
  • In astronomy, the average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters.
  • Vedic mathematicians viewed 108 as a number of the wholeness of existence.
  • Mala beads, used during meditation, have 108 beads plus the guru bead that ties them all together.

After completing 108 sun salutations – which takes about 75 minutes, we'll enjoy some juicy restorative poses and a nice, long, well-deserved savasana!

As always, all experience levels are welcome and donations will be accepted with gratitude (cash or Venmo @isabelliard).

We'll meet in our usual spot by City Park's Graham-Bible House, near the intersection of 20th Ave. & York St., across the street from Syrup.
