10,000 Foot Overview of Kafka
Event Information
About this event
Apache Kafka is quickly becoming a hot technology, but what is Kafka? Why would you want to use it? When would you want to use it?
This session will answer these questions and provide a high-level overview of Kafka, the different ways developers and non-developers can use, test, get data in and out of it, and build data pipelines with it using the various libraries and components that are available.
Although Kafka is written in Java and the code examples will be in Java, there are also official clients for C/C++, Python, Go, and .Net and many community-supported clients. If you're not a developer, that's ok too. If you know SQL, you can create a Kafka app!
About the speaker:
Jim Bethancourt is a Principal Consultant at Improving and is the leader of the Houston Java User Group. He recently earned the Confluent Certified Developer for Apache Kafka certification and is eager to share what he's learned. He also created and maintains RefactorFirst, a tool to help Java developers determine where to start their refactoring efforts (though he took a break while studying for his Kafka certification).
