Event Details

Across Virginia, communities are accepting that homelessness is solvable. 1,000 Homes for 1,000 Virginians is a statewide initiative - led by the Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness - to house 1,000 of the most vulnerable Virginians experiencing homelessness.

The 1,000 Homes for 1,000 Virginians initiative aims to identify the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness by compiling information using a tool called the Vulnerability Index, rank their conditions by severity, and then systematically house them before their homelessness causes them to die.

Twelve communities across the state have joined the 1,000 Homes initiative:

  • Central Virginia: Richmond
  • Hampton Roads: Norfolk, the Peninsula (Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, York County, James City County, Poquoson) Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Western Tidewater (Suffolk, Isle of Wright County, Franklin and Southampton County)
  • Northern Virginia: Arlington, Prince William County
  • The Valley: Harrisonburg & Rockingham County
  • Southwest Virginia: Roanoke, Martinsville (Danville, Franklin County, Patrick County)

We have the solutions to end homelessness. Now we must act. We must respond first with housing.

PLEASE NOTE:  ALL surveying activities begin at  5 am daily.  Volunteers are strongly urged to commit to volunteering for all three days of activities.
