This second recital in the Bijou de la Vida Concert series is devoted to chamber music written during World War I. This concert reflects contemplation of the roots of humanity, and the search for everlasting values within national traditions in the context of the Great War. We will hear elements of despair, but also of perseverance, humor and optimism that are at the core of human nature. Works by de Falla, Janáček, Messiaen and more, as well as Stravinsky’s powerful ‘L’histoire du soldat’ for violin, clarinet and piano.

This event is included in the NEMPAC Performance Season pass for ticket holders.

Attendees are invited to a pre-concert wine and cheese reception at 6:30 pm.

About the Bijou de la Vida Concert Series: Originally the NEMPAC professional musicians series, this series was renamed after the discovery of a magical private art gallery owned by NEMPAC trustee and friend, Ramin Khostatefeh. In an artistic, intimate, inspiration setting, NEMPAC presents a concert featuring professional musicians in the Boston area, several of which are NEMPAC faculty members. Each event includes a lite wine and cheese reception prior to the concert program starting at 7:30 p.m. The series originated at the Old North Church in 2012 and has since grown into a professional musician series often featuring artists who are on the cusp of entering nationally or even world-wide career. The series provides an opportunity for community members to attend a high-level performance event at an affordable cost.
