Event description

Description

Join the Johnson C. Smith University School of Social Work, as we Celebrate the 10 Yr. Anniversary of the Phasing Up to New Possibilities program, September 20, 2019 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. As the 1st nationally recognized Historically Black College to provide a university wide, comprehensive set of support services, for students who have experienced foster care and homelessness, JCSU is proud of the success our students have experienced.

JCSU graduates of the Phasing Up Program will be the MAIN FEATURE of the celebration. They will discuss such practical topics as; Where will I live when school is out; How do I pay my school bill while waiting for state/county money to arrive; The fear and anxiety of my 21st Birthday; Re-connecting with biological family members.

This panel of students will offer an excellent opportunity for DSS Directors, YFS Directors, Links Coordinators, McKinney Vento Specialist, Foster & Adoptive Parents, High school Guidance Counselors, Private Child Care Licensed Providers, and others who directly support transitioning youth.

The Symposium will feature morning and afternoon presentations on innovations in supporting former foster youth in a post secondary setting, and a luncheon with keynote address.

Hotel Information: Hotel rooms are reserved at The Double Tree by Hilton Charlotte, 845 W. Trade St. Charlotte, NC 28202; To make your reservations call 704-347-0070 and ask for the JCSU rate of $119.00 per night.
