Event description

Description

Please note that date, time, and location of the consultation is flexible. I'll email and work with you to set up the consultation meeting after the ticket is purchased. For those who live outside the area, virtual meeting is also an option via Skype or Zoom meeting.

Looking to break into UX, but need some (or lots of) help?

Linkedin has recently listed Product Designers #4 on their Most Promising jobs of 2019 - this after Payscale said a similar thing about design roles on their Hottest Jobs in 2018 report. If you're looking for guidance to making it happen, then this consultation is for you!

What will you learn?

A Lot!

In this 2-hour session, I will cover the following topics. Depending on your needs or situations, I will customize a program that fits your specific needs:

  • UX portfolio - Have a portfolio that needs critiquing? Or do you need to start one but needs guidance? I will walk you through the process of creating one, what hiring managers look for, and how you can use storytelling to connect with your audience.
  • Resume review - Job applications are won or lost within the first few seconds hiring managers or recruiters scan your resume. Learn how to design your resume to optimize your odds of getting an interview invitation.
  • UX job application strategy - UX interviews can be intimidating. Phone screens, on-site interviews, and design challenges! How best to handle them, and what do the hiring teams look for at every stage? Understanding the mind of the hiring team will significantly improve your chance to acing interviews.
  • Designer branding - As hot as the industry is now, there are hundreds, if not thousands, other designers competing with you for the same job. Being able to clearly define what your brand is all about can help make you stand out in the sea of applications.
  • UX education/training needs - If you are considering taking UX courses - online or offline, and want to understand the pros and cons of them. I can walk you through your options and guide you in selecting what's best for you.

How does this work?

We will meet 1-1 at a mutually convenient location. My date is also flexible so if you want to meet another night we can most certainly do so. Once you bought the ticket I'll send you an email to arrange for our meeting

Whom is this consultation for?

Anyone who is interested in pivoting into a UX career (UX design or UX research), or just want to learn about how to break into UX. In my career, I have mentored a number of folks with diverse backgrounds - architects, graphic designers, interior designers, developers, startup owners, and junior designers. I have helped a number of them reaching their goal of breaking into the UX field, and I'd love to help you do the same (sounds corny, I know, but it's true...)
