ASAM Criteria-(A) – Understanding the ASAM Criteria in the context of the California treatment system

Introductory course – Step 1 in the ASAM Series

A general overview of ASAM as well as instruction related to the proper utilization of ASAM criteria for appropriate patient placement, and guidance for utilizing ASAM criteria to determine the appropriate treatment of patients based upon their level of care. The emphasis here and throughout the ASAM training series will be the use of the ASAM Criteria as a tool for initial client placement and ongoing services at a given level of care. This training will also address the role of ASAM in medical necessity and treatment planning.

Learning Objectives:

1. List the six dimensions of multidimensional patient assessment

2. Explain how the five broad levels of care recommended by ASAM criteria reflect specific services that are available throughout California

3. Demonstrate ability to apply ASAM risk ratings to information gathered through multidimensional assessment

Registration begins at 8:30am. Training will begin promptly at 9:00am.

Who Should Participate?

California Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment/Contract Providers and County Staff who are engaged in the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS) process.

Continuing Education

The training course meets the qualifications for the provision of four and one-half (4.5) continuing education credits/contact hours (CEs/CEHs). UCLA ISAP is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs (Provider #64812). UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. UCLA ISAP is also an approved provider of continuing education for RADTs I/II, CADCs-CASs, CADCs I/II, CADCs-CSs, and LAADCs (CCAPP, #2N-00-445-1117), CATCs (ACCBC/CAADE, #CP 20 872 C 0819), and CAODCs (CADTP, #151).

CE credit will be awarded at the conclusion of the training. Partial credit will not be available for those participants who arrive late or leave early.
