They set out in search of themselves, instead they found the voices of 200 million Chinese migrant workers.
Once a music teacher, Sun Heng quit his stable job to look for a more fulfilling life. He roamed across provinces, performing on the streets while working odd jobs. Stories of the destitute inspired countless songs.
While performing in an underground tunnel, he met Xu Duo, a name that means plentiful, but a young man who owned very little outside of his guitar.
They were convinced that migrant workers need a spiritual life and together they formed The New Workers Art Troupe.
In the next 10 years, Duan Yu, Sun Yuan and Jiang Guoliang joined them, singing for and on behalf of China's 200 million migrant workers. They released 5 albums, performed over 500 shows for over 100 thousand workers.
With their music royalties, they established a migrant children's school, a workers' cultural museum and facilities that offered other services. They became the voices of migrant workers and an inspiration to all.
