With inflation reaching all-time highs and back-to-school spending expected to surpass over $800 per student, communities are rising up to support those in need.
2022 “Back to School” Supply Drives in the U.S. are Up Exponentially
Eventbrite tracked “Back to School” supply drives in the U.S. and found that attendance to these events has increased 1,135% YoY, comparing the first seven months of 2022 to the same time last year. Some of that increase is due to the mass return to IRL events in general.
To better understand the impact of inflation, Eventbrite compared 2022 to 2019 and found a 168% increase in attendance at school supply drives this year compared to pre-pandemic levels.
Additional “Back to School” Findings from Eventbrite
- 4x as many people attended “Back To School” supply drives and giveaways on the platform this July 2022 compared to July 2021.
- Now — some of that is due to the aforementioned resurgence in live events. So we decided to compare 2022 to 2019 for a pre-pandemic baseline and found: 3x as many people visited supply drives and giveaways in July 2022 compared to in 2019; so there is a clear increase compared to pre-pandemic levels.
Eventbrite is a Platform for Discovery and Conduit to Do Good
According to Tamara Mendelsohn, CMO of Eventbrite, “One of the most inspiring aspects of this story is that people are turning to Eventbrite to organize and help their communities. This increase in back to school supply drives means communities are looking out for each other, and organizing events to make sure children have what they need to be successful this school year. It’s one of the things I love most about Eventbrite — it’s a platform for discovery and a conduit to do good.”
