Today’s post is written by our Toronto Ambassador, Jamie. For the next few weeks, Jamie will be attending and reporting on some of the best and britest events Toronto has to offer. Check back in every week to hear her latest installment!

Last week, Toronto event goers were charmed by a curious coonhound named Maddie at the third annual #PawsGala by Paws for the Cause.

Each year at #PawsGala, Paws for the Cause chooses a new animal welfare group to raise money for. This year’s benefactor, Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic, will use the money to help subsidize a portion of surgery costs for owners who can’t afford life-saving surgeries for their pets.

In its third year, #PawsGala took the leash in a different direction with a dog show showcasing the work of creative, professional dog grooming and an art show featuring photographer Theron Humphrey and his coonhound, Maddie.

Hosted by animal lover and local news station host, Melissa Grelo, the professional grooming show had everyone’s tails wagging and camera’s flashing. Using all non-toxic products, each dog was groomed and adorned in colourful body bling for their walk down the catwalk.

The event also featured 99 balloons suspended from the ceiling containing raffle tickets. Guests got a real bark out of making a donation to Paws for the Cause and popping their raffle tickets out of the balloons!

At the end of the night, guests left with a doggybag full of treats for their own four-legged friends. The money raised at #PawsGala will be split between Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic and their own Chloe award; a scholarship awarded to a University of Guelph veterinary student who excels in canine critical care.

Stay tuned for Jamie’s next Toronto adventure!
