There are two things most event planners have in common:
- They are stressed.
- Music helps them relax.
Actually, the latter is true for most people. In particular, the more rhythmic the music, the more relaxing it is.
There’s plenty of data to support this. In fact, Stanford’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics can tell us exactly why:
Music with a strong beat stimulates the brain and ultimately causes brainwaves to resonate in time with the rhythm… Slow beats encourage the slow brainwaves that are associated with hypnotic or meditative states.
So if you want your brain to slow down and relax, listen to a slower beat — ideally something soothing.
You might have your personal favorites for when you need to chill out. But as we head into the hectic holiday season — one that’s particularly harrowing for most event planners — perhaps you need a little extra take it easy time. And no, that tired old Eagles song did not make the cut.
To help you take a step back, the San Francisco Eventbrite office has curated 5 hours of great tunes to kick back to. Here are five highlights.
Event planner chill-out groove #1
Space Wheel by Circles Around the Sun
The alt-music scene recently lost a legend. Guitarist Neal Casal was most well-known for playing with Ryan Adams & The Cardinals and the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. But his most intimate and respected music project was Circles Around the Sun. This mellow, hypnotic tune clocks in at an impressive 17:26 for your extended relaxing pleasure.
Event planner chill-out groove #2
Ágætis byrjun by Sigur Rós
Seasonally appropriate for the upcoming New Year: Ágætis byrjun means “good beginning” in Icelandic.
Event planner chill-out groove #3
King and Cross by another Icelandic songwriter: Ásgeir
They must really know how to chill out in Iceland (ba-dum-bum).
Event planner chill-out groove #4
Ceiling Gazing by Mark Kozelek
A song to literally aspire to.
Event planner chill-out groove #5
Sound & Color by the Alabama Shakes
“A new world hangs
Outside the window
Beautiful and strange…”
Speaking of new worlds, Happy New Year from Eventbrite! We hope it’s filled with some much needed relaxation. Want some more great chill out music from across the genre spectrum? Check out the full playlist.
