A seamless participant experience helps Foxy’s Fall Century ride to success

Foxy's fall centuryEvery October, in the scenic countryside around Davis, California, 1600 bike riders set out on Foxy’s Fall Century through the fields and orchards around Davis and up into the Vaca Mountains. The popular ride is named for Ed “Foxy Grandpa” Delano, a beloved early member of the Davis Bike Club, a local non-profit organization that’s been thriving since the 1970s. The Fall Century is the club’s flagship ride of 100 miles, with some riders choosing a 100-kilometer route or an even shorter family fun ride.

Michael Borgg has been the volunteer director for Foxy’s Fall Century since 2010. When he arrived on the job, he discovered problems with the existing registration service. “I was inundated with calls about registration, but at the same time I had no visibility into what was going on with registration,” he notes. He had no easy way to contact riders by email, and vice versa. “The old service wasn’t nearly as sophisticated as we needed,” he says.

In 2011 the sold-out 1600 rider Foxy’s Fall Century switched to Eventbrite which helped the volunteer director pull off Davis Bike Club’s flagship ride while providing a seamless participant experience.
