Biography

Diplo is a DJ and record producer from Los Angeles, California. Born Thomas Wesley Pentz Jr., Diplo was greatly influenced by home-grown rap from a very early age, which inspired his production style. Over the years, he developed a taste for Miami bass and started making successful mixtapes that propelled him into the universe of world-renowned DJs.

He immediately stood out by smashing different genres together and creating cohesive music that instantly grabs attention. He founded the record company Mad Decent, and started collaborating with a wide range of artists, including M.I.A., Mark Ronson, Tiesto, Sia, Skrillex, DJ Snake, Riff Raff, and many others.

Diplo is a member of several famous electronic dancehall music projects. He founded Major Lazer with DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, as well as the supergroup LSD with Australian singer Sia and British musician Labrinth. He’s also a member of Jack Ü, a DJ duo with Skrillex, and he’s a part of Silk City, an electronic duo with Mark Ronson.

Diplo’s outstanding musical abilities won him several great music awards and nominations, including Grammys. He won Grammy Awards for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü, Best Dance Recording for “Where Are Ü Now” and “Electricity”.
