Small Business - Big Impact
The motivation behind this group is much like the motivation of most Meetup groups - to meet and connect with like minded people. My name is Melissa Minchala and I am a partner of a small technology service business, DataVelocity. Having spent a good amount of time and effort touring the many different networking options New York City has to offer, including the good, the bad, and the ugly, there always seems to be a little something missing at the end. For a while, I volunteered time with a non-profit organization whose goal it was to help bridge the technology gap that exists in the Latino communities here in the United States and abroad. Though the experience was rewarding, I soon found that I could not afford to be as generous of my time as was required of me, and I had to give it up. Suddenly I found that sense of altruistic purpose missing in my life and wanted to find a way to fill it that would meld with my already busy life.
Networking is essential for small businesses, and crucial when done properly. Going to an event, meeting people, collecting cards, side stepping hard sells can be pointless when relationships are not created. People are more apt to create relationships with, and refer business to, others that share their tastes and beliefs. With a group such as this, you will meet others that believe in their power to make a difference, that understand the world is wider than their own existence, and that we are all connected to each other. We intend to grow a community of business owners, professionals and contacts that you can create personal and business relationships with that will enrich your life and help you reach your goals.
