Despite what the name implies, the Beaufort Music Festival is not just a weekend packed with amazing bands performing for you free of charge on the beautiful waterfront setting of our quaint little town. That is definitely part of it. But that is not the whole story.
The Beaufort Music Festival is a network of citizens in the community who volunteer their time and work all year following the belief that we can make a positive impact on our neighborhoods through arts, music, education and events. The music festival weekend is our flagship, but it is only one of a multitude of events that are put on throughout the calendar year. Each of these events serves to bring people together in a unique way and promote local art, activities and a community feeling. These events all help raise money that in turn is used not only to produce the music festival, but is also returned straight to the heart of the community – the children. At the conclusion of the 2011 festival we were able to award $1,000 to the Beaufort Music Festival College Scholarship, which is given to a local graduating high school senior. We see these numbers as starting points.
These donations came in the face of producing the festival on the tightest budget ever. But we are committed to our cause and as the economy rebounds we are driven to see these numbers increase. You may ask if that caused the quality of our music to suffer. Well, just go look at our past lineups. We held the largest crowd ever through the festival and only plan on continuing in that direction. As much as we are into our community, I think the only thing we may be more into is music. We live it. We breathe it. So stay tuned and cancel any plans you may have for May 11th and 12th, 2012. There is an amazing music festival going on for free. Shhhhhh, it’s kind of a secret.
