Colin M. Caplan was born and raised in the City of New Haven, Connecticut. He developed an early appreciation for architecture, history, and his cultural surroundings. Colin studied at Tulane University in New Orleans graduating with a Master’s of Architecture and an Earth Science Minor. Returning to New Haven he has worked with a wide range of individuals and groups including architects, builders, community groups, municipalities and developers in designing, restoring and piecing together the histories of hundreds of buildings. Colin is noted for his methods of making history relevant to people today.

Colin's research and writing have resulted in a body of published and unpublished work. In 2006 he wrote his first book on New Haven history called New Haven (Then & Now) followed by A Guide to Historic New Haven, CT, 101 Glimpses of New Haven and Westville, Tales from a Connecticut Hamlet, He researches and writes building and family histories for clients across Connecticut. Colin's contributed to and has been featured in other publications including US Airways Magazine, The New York Times, The Hartford Courant, Metro North Railroad and Meetings Focus Magazine.

His company Magrisso Forte specializes in architectural design, historic reseach, writing, vintage photography prints and walking tours. Colin regularly gives tours and presentations to groups ranging from Yale University, University or New Haven, American Society of Landscape Architects, Wooster Square Association and more.

In 2011 Colin started Taste of New Haven Food & Drink Tours. This company organizes culinary walking tours sampling the amazing food offerings while showing tourists and locals the amazing the city's amazing history. The company has expanded to three tours a weekend as well as leading private group tours. More than 1000 people, hailing from every corner of the state and beyond, have taken part in the tours. Specialized tours include a package for a culinary tour and jazz show, pizza tour and other ethnic based food tours.

Colin also dabbles in other creative ventures. During a breif move to Santa Monica, California he became involved in small acting roles in television, commercials and film. Now taking on a totally different skill set Colin works with Kent Bloomer Studio designing and fabricating ornamental metalwork. This work will be installed in New Haven and Washington D.C.

Colin's role in the community has been to engage and effect positive change for others. He was awarded the 2008 Arts Award by the Arts Council of Greater New Haven for his work in the preservation and architectural community. Serving as a Justice of the Peace since he was 18 years old Colin is routinely called to officiate his friends and family's weddings. The numerous positions Colin has had in community organizations include Chairperson of the Alliance for Architecture, Historic Officer of the Friends of Edgewood Park, ensemble member and historian of the Broken Umbrella Theater Company and as board member for the New Haven Preservation Trust and the Elm City Parks Conservancy. Colin lives in a circa 1750 Colonial house which was featured on HGTV "If These Walls Could Talk" in 2006.
