Friends of the Semel Institute
The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA, formerly the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA (NPI), is a world renowned multidisciplinary research institute whose preeminent faculty is dedicated to the study of mind, brain, and behavior. Since its founding five decades ago, the Institute has assembled more than 370 physicians, clinical researchers, and scientists who work collaboratively to study psychiatric and neurological disorders and to develop new and effective treatments that improve lives.
Through research, education, and patient care, these scientists are unraveling the mysteries of the mind and brain and complex human behavior. Researchers are identifying the biological, psychological, behavioral, and socio-cultural underpinnings of the human experience, as well as the causes and consequences of conditions ranging from autism, addiction, and Alzheimer’s disease, to depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, OCD and other illnesses and disorders of the mind and brain.
