Department of Labor Grant awarded to Technology & Logistics ProgramThe CAOT Department recently collaborated with three other community colleges in the region to form the Southern California Logistics Technology Collaborative (SCLTC). The US Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, recently awarded this collaborative $4.3 million to provide entry, mid, and advanced training for careers in logistics. This funding is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.ELAC’s CAOT Department’s portion of this funding is $900,000 which will go toward strengthening its existing Logistics program. Current curriculum, including online courses, will be enhanced and new classes developed. Perhaps the most exciting component of these efforts will be the development of two new certification programs under the auspices of the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC): the Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) and Certified Logistics Technician (CLT). Both of these certificates are now offered as credit courses and started in Fall 2010.
