Dr. Debbie Empowers
#TherapistForThePeople Dr. Debbie is passionate about inner work and healing. Her focus is on soul care, reproductive justice, and the parent-child relationship through an infant mental health lens. She helps support therapists in the parallel process to find their calling in the sacred space of therapeutic healing and provides organizational consultation on integrating heart work to build an inclusive and relational workplace culture. She recently completed two publications on integrating faith and therapy and additionally, on using family therapy to support maternal mental health.
Dr. Debbie’s main training background includes Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, cultural humility, early childhood social-emotional wellness, maternal mental health, brain development, grief care, suicide prevention, mindfulness, Brazelton Touchpoints, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, TF-CBT, EMDR and many others. She serves as a facilitator on the above topics as a state trainer for the Florida Association of Infant Mental Health and other groups as consultation permits.
As a speaker, Dr. Debbie has presented on national stages such as the New Leaders Council Convention to local community churches and nonprofits such as NAMI. Recently, Dr. Debbie was a featured representative of the "Zero to Three" Mindfulness Community of Practice at the 2021 national conference and served as a guest speaker at several Early Learning Coalition conferences. Lastly, she was highlighted in the International Association of Family Therapy Newsletter for her outstanding work and contribution to the field on creating solutions for birth equity, grief and loss support regarding infant mortality, and addressing the transference of racial trauma with training in cultural humility.
