Chicago Section of the American Chemical Society
The Chicago Section of the American Chemical Society is a professional organizaiton of approximately 4500 chemists in the greater Chicagoland area. We are the local branch of the national ACS, which is the largest scientific society in the world. We cover the Illinois counties Cook, Lake, McHenry, Kane, and DuPage, plus the Indiana counties of Lake and Porter.
Our members are found in
- Academia (Professors, teachers, and students in research universities, colleges, high schools, etc.)
- Industry (Large corporations, small startups, individual entrpreneurs, etc.)
- Government (National laboratories, law enforcement, civic agencies, etc.)
- Nonprofit organizations (Independed research labs, hospitals, etc.)
- Retirement
Our activites include
- Monthly (10/year) General Meetings with talks on chemistry-related topics
- Networking functions
- Providing career development resources for professional chemists
- Outreach activities at schools, museums, libraries, and similar venues
- Awarding the prestigious Willard Gibbs Medal
- Conducting exams and awarding scholarships
- Advocating for chemistry and science with leaders in government and other organizations
Membership Application
