What would it take to change the world? Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
The Rotary Foundation recognizes Six Areas of Focus for Rotary Clubs which reflect the service interests and activities of Rotary clubs worldwide: Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, and Economic and Community Development.
Brookline, Massachusetts has a very active Rotary Club, and we are considered leaders within our community. Our club's battle cry for 2012-2013 is "Fight Hunger in Brookline", but we have also participated in water projects to bring clean water to villages in third world countries, helped to give the Gift of Life to children in need of life-saving heart surgery, and various literacy projects in the Brookline and Greater Boston areas.
