How Eventbrite Works

What is Eventbrite?

Eventbrite is a software platform that event organizers around the world use to sell tickets and registrations for their events--from yoga classes to tech conferences. It is ‘self-service,’ which means that Eventbrite provides tools to organizers so that they can create registration pages for their own events and promote them across multiple social networks. Organizers can use Eventbrite’s service at no cost for events that are free to attend--there is only a service fee when organizers sell paid tickets. Attendees can use Eventbrite to discover new events in their area.

Our sweet feature suite enables organizers to promote events across multiple social networks, utilizing tracking links and affiliates. We also help organizers learn more about their attendees with customizable registration forms and dynamic reporting. All of these features are designed to empower anyone to be an event organizer!

Eventbrite as a Payment Processor

Organizer

By choosing Eventbrite as the payment processor for your event, you are selecting the most seamless option for your event attendees. Attendees enter their payment information over a secure connection using a PCI compliant gateway. They can expect to see charges on their credit card statement displayed as ‘EB*’ followed by the first 15 characters of the event title.

All funds collected by Eventbrite are held until 5 days after the event has ended. This 96-hour window provides time to process any refunds to attendees. Although Eventbrite is the company processing the credit card payments, the organizer is the administrator of the account, and is ultimately responsible for the funds. Because of this, refunds are at your discretion, and we recommend posting your refund policy in the Event Details section. If your attendees contact Eventbrite staff regarding a refund for your event, we will direct them to contact you. Eventbrite is a self-service platform—we will not be able to issue refunds on your behalf.

Eventbrite’s credit card payment processor allows ticket buyers to easily and safely purchase tickets online. Your information is processed over a secure connection using a PCI compliant gateway. Though we offer you the option to save your credit card details in your Eventbrite account, this information is not stored on Eventbrite’s servers for your protection. You can expect to see charges on your credit card statement displayed as ‘EB*’ followed by the first 15 characters of the event title. If you happen to come across a charge that you don’t recognize, contact our support team and we will be happy to help you out! In the meantime, if you are looking for the details of your purchase, they can be found on the order confirmation email sent to you from orders@eventbrite.com.

Eventbrite is able to issue payouts by both direct deposit and by check for USD.

Refund Policy

Organizer

Sometimes, attendees will request a refund for a ticket they purchased for your event. We encourage you to work with the attendee to decide if you would like to issue a refund or not. In our experience we have found that it creates the best attendee experience if you post your refund policy. You can establish any kind of refund policy you want--we just request that you be exceptionally clear with your attendees about it. This means including it on your event page, order confirmation page, order confirmation email—anywhere your attendees will look for information about your event. Please note that you will not be charged any service fees for any orders that are refunded in full. Eventbrite gives you the tools to issue refunds, but we will never issue refunds on your behalf. Here’s how!

Sometimes things come up and you need a refund for a ticket purchase; we understand! Eventbrite enables event organizers around the globe to sell tickets to their events—therefore we also enable them to establish their own refund policy. You may want to check the event page where you initially registered for the event, or your order confirmation email, for any information the event organizer has provided about refunds. If you have any questions, you can use the ‘Contact the Host’ button on the event page, reply to your order confirmation email, or use the Refund Request tool in your account to connect with the organizer directly.
