Event Details

Join IDSA Chicago and Christopher Carani, Esq., as we discuss intellectual property rights as related to industrial design. Topics will include:

·        How to protect designs using intellectual property rights (e.g. designs patents, trademarks, copyrights or even utility patents)

·        How to enforce design intellectual property rights

·        What designers can and should do to avoid infringing other's intellectual property rights

·        The “in's and out's" of international design protection

Time permitting, topics may also include outcomes of recent litigations regarding product designs, and their impact on designers. Lastly, there have been recent important changes in the Patent and Trademark Office which now allow for a "rocket docket" application - meaning a quick patent examination which is ideal for seasonal, high volume items. The length of time to get a design patent has always been a major concern of the retail industry when it comes to IP rights.

Space is limited to 35 seats, so please register early to insure availability.

Christopher Carani, Esq. is a partner at McAndrews, Held & Malloy and possesses an expertise in the area of industrial design having litigated numerous disputes in this highly specialized area of the law.
