This course teaches officer survival tactics when the officer believes his life is in immediate danger:
- Upon immediately being taken hostage
- When negotiations fail and the officer feels his life in imminent danger
This defensive tactics course addresses defensive options while being held hostage by a gun or knife on a traffic stop or citizen contact.
The first portion of the training includes two-man tactics - The hostage officer takes immediate action to protect himself by positioning the suspect in a manner that will allow his partner to neutralize the suspect. The second portion of the training gives the officer tools to counter the threat of serious bodily injury or death by gun or knife at close range.
