Legendary photographer Albert Watson talks personal projects, editorial assignments, and making photographs for over 40 years.
On Tuesday, November 2nd, we're honored to have photographer ALBERT WATSON join us at the SPD Speakeasy to talk about his recent project, "STRIP SEARCH" — a mongraph on the life and lives of Las Vegas, the outcome of over 5 years of personal work. Of course, he'll also talk about his iconic editorial work (over 200 covers for Vogue, over 40 covers for Rolling Stone, more celebrity portraits than you can count) and the challenges and rewards of being a photographer balancing personal passions and editorial assignments. SPD is a membership organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging excellence in editorial design across all print and digital platforms. Our members are art directors, designers, photo editors, photographers, illustrators and information graphics professionals, editors and students.
Since drafting its charter in 1965, SPD remains the only organization specifically addressing the visual concerns of print and digital editorial professionals, whether that be journalism, storytelling, service or more. Editorial design plays a crucial role in shaping and documenting our common history; as such, the efforts of the Society serve to educate and enlighten our members, and the general public about the importance of magazines, newspapers, and other publications.
