TransitCampBayArea follows in the footsteps of two very successful TransitCamps in Canada: TorontoTransitCamp and TransitCampVancouver. Transit Camp is inspired by BarCamp.
Bar Camp events are powered by participation and collaboration. This particular TransitCamp will highlight the public transit system in the Bay Area Region and will bring together transit officials and citizens to discuss stuff like: getting schedules on the go, the future of the Bay Area transit system, experiences and observations (not complaints, though), the websites, cool ideas for attracting more riders, etc.
Our focus is on encouraging more people to use public transit. Certainly that doesn't exclude infrastructure, but it's not the focus. We discussed the following three areas in which the '2.0' crowd can contribute to the conversation:
This is not the only event we will be having, but it is the one that will, hopefully, open up the conversation between technologists, transit officials, elected officials and the public.
Day one will be the pre-cursor to the *Camp where we are scheduling information sessions to be given from all involved. Day two is the Camp day, where we will take that information and talk about how we build into the future.
Please remember that no complaining is allowed. This is a SOLUTIONS PLAYGROUND, where, if something seems wrong, you need to think constructively and positively towards a solution, working with the people around you.
