Fab Lab Manchester's evening event DIWO (do it with others) aims to build a more social network interacting with other Manchester based
groups and like minded fab folks!!
It is an informal event, like an “unconference” where people
can come and chat about projects, themselves, groups, current things happening
in Manchester. Plus there are a few beers and snacks provided for light refreshment.
We will aim to start the event at 7pm to give folks time to get here.
At 7.15pm we have "Techfusion" a short theory session from a guest speaker for 20 mins. This weeks is titled "Your first faltering steps in Electronics" details below.
Then the "Open Mic" session a chance for us all to chat about whats going on in MCR and what we'd like to see and do.
***Special guest Mike Blow will also be giving a presentation on the Theremuino, an infra-red theremin (distance-activated musical instrument) based on an arduino microcontroller. We might even get our "Band on the Floor" out too!!
Finally drawing to a close at 9pm
The Fab Lab will be open from 7pm so feel free to drop in and out at any time!!
What happened last time...
At our first meeting it was unanimously agreed that we should have more events, yey! and that we should share some of our wide and varied skills and expertise. I coined it "Techfusion" and Mike Cook kindly agreed to speak first.
His session titled "Your first faltering steps in Electronics" will aim to introduce the basic building blocks of electronics, current flow, resistors,
capacitors, inductors & diodes. With a non mathematical 'feel' approach of
how they work. Then go on to talk of ohms law and how to calculate resistor
values for LEDs. Finally if time will cover how transistors work and micro controllers. Mike is an accomplished electronics engineer with a vast and impressive background, he currently works at PACE who make digital set top boxes.

Fab Lab Book – Jo Carmody
would like to get quotes from people using the Fab Lab to gain an insight into
what FabLabbers are about.
Fab Lab Lab – residential
workshop/retreat/escape. This was proposed as an idea for development at the
next event.
The FAB LAB MCR challenge… Better project
