This 17th Century ( Grade II listed ) restaurant, once the haunt of Smugglers, is situated in the picturesque village of Boreham Street ( on the A271 ) not far from Herstmonceux and has magnificent views across the countryside to Norman's Bay and, on a clear day, the sea.
With its oak beams and large open fireplaces it has lots of character and charm but still maintains a friendly and intimate atmosphere.
Starters may include: Chilled Fans of Honeydew Melon with Pineapple and Orange and Mango Coulis; Chef's Home Made Chicken Liver Cream and Brandy Pate with Hot Toast; Deep Fried Brie in a Light Breadcrumb Batter with a Redcurrant and Wine Sauce; Flash Fried Devilled Whitebait with a Mixed Salad and Tartar Sauce; Baked Baby Garlic Mushrooms Topped with Stilton Cheese;
And mains: Poached Fresh Salmon Steak in a Lobster and White Wine Sauce; Grilled Fillet of Local Plaice with Tartar Sauce and Lemon Twist; Roast Rib of Beef served with Yorkshire Pudding; Chef's Traditional Steak and Kidney Pie ( Simply the Best ); Pan Fried Breast of Chicken with Sage and Onion Seasoning and Bacon; Roast Lamb Shank in a Rich Gravy with Seasonal Vegetables Garnish.
