Event Details

The Job Seeker’s Guide to the Internet is an estimated two (2) hour session designed to provide current and important information about how the internet can/is being used to generate beneficial results to job-seekers in the job market. This is driven by the massive transformation that is taking place on the web (esp. the so-called Web 2.0), as increased two (2) way real-time networking and information sharing is on the rise and steadily growing. The astronomical growth of Social Media and Web tools on the web is the main thrust behind this 21st century development, which is why creating awareness and greater use of Social Media tools is important, especially as it relates to job seekers in the job market.

The session’s objective is to provide a general, but also comprehensive information relating to why/how Job Seekers can effectively make use of Social Media to significantly improve online job search skills, brand and create a dynamic online professional profile, and better market their skills and proficiencies to potential recruiters.

The Job Seeker’s Guide to the Internet session will be taking place in different communities across the island, with the goal of enabling job seekers on the island to adequately compete for jobs with other Provinces and indeed the global community at large that have already started taking advantage of the endless possibilities Social Media has to offer.

The Community Access Program (CAP) is a Government of Canada initiative, administered by Industry Canada, which aims to provide Canadians with affordable public access to the Internet and the skills they need to use it effectively. With the combined efforts of the federal, provincial and territorial governments, community groups, social agencies, libraries, schools, volunteer groups and the business community, CAP helps Canadians, wherever they live, take advantage of emerging opportunities in the new global knowledge-based economy. Under CAP, public locations like schools, libraries and community centres act as "on-ramps" to the Information Highway, and provide computer support and training. To learn more visit www.peicaps.org
