Recruit, Retain, Recognize and Risk Management

Essential and interactive training for volunteer integration

Challenged to recruit and retain volunteers?
Worried volunteers seem scarcer?

Volunteer Alberta is hosting upcoming training opportunities on the 4 R’s of volunteer management… Recruit, Retain, Recognize and Risk management. Sessions across the province on the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement and Screening Volunteers In – Not Out will put you and your organization at the forefront of a new approach to volunteer management.

You are going to solve your organization’s need for volunteers. Pretty far-reaching statement right? It is possible, if you change your thinking, adjust your strategy, create a better process for screening volunteers for your nonprofit, volunteer engaging organizations. Learn why we all need to start Screening In – Not Out!

News headlines are frequent reminders of what can happen to nonprofits through the actions (or non-actions!) of just a few unscrupulous volunteers. The response should not be to disengage from volunteering – the answer is to focus on how to screen volunteers INTO your organization rather than concentrating on screening the bad apples out!

Volunteers are a valuable asset to the nonprofit/voluntary sector in Alberta (did you know Alberta has over 19,000 organizations and nearly 1 in 2 Albertans volunteer?). Understanding new and improved tools for volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition can lift an organization out of the rut of constant worry about where to get volunteers!

Invest time to make sure integrating volunteers into your organization is a primary integrated human resource focus. Welcome this opportunity to reevaluate how volunteers are recruited, retained and rewarded.

Whether serving on Boards, sharing specific skills with their organization or on the front-line volunteers doing critical work for clients, volunteers are a critical factor in the social and economic success of our communities.

Volunteer Alberta is offering two new opportunities to learn about a new way of approaching volunteer management – Screening Volunteers In – Not Out and the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement!

Volunteer Canada updated the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement (CCVI) in 2006. Revamped and rewritten by Alberta’s own Nadine Maillot, a nationally recognized consultant in volunteer management; the Code provides user friendly tactics to improve the four R’s of volunteer management: recruitment, retention, recognition and risk management.

Building on the CCVI, Ms. Maillot developed a unique approach to a topic essential to volunteer-engaging organizations – screening. Screening Volunteers In – Not Out is an exciting new approach to screening volunteers in, rather than screening them out. Can’t you see yourself after a day of learning with your peers satisfied that you’ve got the keys to solving volunteer recruitment worries?

Funded through the Wild Rose Foundation and organized by Volunteer Alberta, don’t miss these incredible, low-cost professional development opportunities. This is essential information for board members, senior staff, volunteers and volunteer managers. To encourage participation, out of town travel subsidies are available.
