If you answered YES to at least 3 of these questions then FASHION STYLING may be the Career for you.
Until’ now, if you lived in California, getting a thorough education as a fashion stylist meant that you had to travel thousands of miles to find a great program, or you had to spend upwards of $25,000 taking courses in fashion merchandising or fashion design that didn’t even meet the requirements of fashion styling.
However, that’s not true any longer. Beginning September 27, 2010, California State University Los Angeles is offering a comprehensive 9 course Fashion Styling Program that will prepare you to get work, make money and succeed as a fashion stylist in the competitive world of entertainment and fashion here in Southern California.
This extraordinary course was designed and is being coordinated by former celebrity styling agent Crystal Wright whose styling agency represented some of the top fashion stylists, makeup artists and hair stylists in the US for over two decades.
THIS COURSE WILL PREPARE YOU FOR:
––Celebrity styling work with actors, actresses, recording artists, and models
––Editorial styling work in media publications such as magazines, ezines and EPK’s (Electronic Press Kits)
––Commercial styling work on print ad campaigns, billboards and television commercials
––Personal shopping for corporate clients
––Tour styling for concerts
––TV styling for reality and episodic television and give you a foundation of understanding for transitioning into costume design for film
––Shopping and sourcing in and outside of Southern California to find the best clothing, accessories and shoes for celebrity and corporate clients
––Understanding the history of fashion, it’s place and use in contemporary fashion
––Building a strong and dynamic portfolio
––Working comfortably in all fashion styling environments.
DID YOU KNOW THAT:
Freelance styling offers individual freedom, self-expression and huge money-making opportunities. Fashion stylists are needed in all areas print, video, film and TV.
Each course is being taught by an experienced and successful working professional in the entertainment and fashion industries.
Not only will the course teach you styling, but it will teach you how to get clients, negotiate with directors, producers and photographers, complete all of the necessary and important paperwork, choose the right images for your portfolio, create comp cards, business cards and a resume.

About the Division of Extended Education
The Extended Education division exists to “extend the reach” of Cal State L.A.’s classes and programs to students not presently a part of the university community. The Division offers flexible registration, convenient scheduling, and innovative delivery of academic classes as well as professional development and enrichment programs. Our programs extend beyond our borders to international students, extend beyond our campus buildings through online classes, extend into our local communities through academic certificate and degree programs and into the workplace through professional training. We prepare students to extend their own education or professional standing through test preparation and classes for personal enrichment. Finally, our open university registration process extends to non-matriculated students the opportunity of taking regular university classes, virtually opening the university catalogue to eligible students. While our reach is broad, our focus is to promote lifelong learning that will enhance our students’ lives – both professionally and personally.
