Composing the Right Improvement Framework

PURPOSE OF WORKSHOP:

Choosing the right improvement framework can mean the difference between success and failure in an organization’s improvement program. An understanding of business objectives, performance and quality goals, and the organizational culture will aid the attendee in selecting the optimum mix of improvement approaches and mechanisms.

The attendee will be exposed to the CMMI, Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, Organizational Learning, and ITIL improvement approaches, and be guided in choosing an integrated improvement framework that best supports the achievement of specific business and performance/quality objectives.

WHERE AND WHEN:

This workshop will be held at the Southern Polytechnic State University’s Continuing Education Center on Saturday, November 13th.  It will begin at 8:30 AM, and conclude at 4:30 PM, with a one hour break for lunch.  Lunch, refreshments and workshop materials will be provided.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

This workshop is intended for:
• Organizations that may be initiating a new improvement effort, and
• Organizations that may want to modify, refocus or extend an existing improvement program.

WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

• Clarification of business and performance/quality goals and how they relate to each other
• Characterization and analysis of the organizational domain and culture
• Clarification of improvement “drivers”, including market forces, schedule urgency, and investment considerations
• Understanding of six specific improvement approaches (Lean, Six Sigma, the CMMI, Organizational Learning, and Theory of Constraints, and ITIL)
• Identification of the attributes that drive the selection of improvement approaches, and
• Selection and tailoring of selected approaches to achieve an effective integrated improvement framework.

A limited amount of workshop time will be set aside for “one-on-one” discussions of specific organizational issues.
