The Smart Meter Program at San Diego Gas & Electric aims to upgrade 1.4 million electric meters and 900,000 natural gas meters for all of its customers throughout the San Diego and South Orange counties by the end of 2011.  Smart Meters provide customers greater choice, control, and convenience over their energy use.  By giving building owners and operators more information about their energy consumption, SDG&E anticipates that Smart Meters will help customers reduce their consumption by 5-10%.  Learn how smart meters let you achieve the greatest benefits from your green building by helping you take advantage of energy efficiency measures and participate in demand response programs.  In addition, learn how Smart Meters provide the foundation of the Smart Grid and how they can interact with electric vehicles, distributed generation, and smart appliances.
