09-21:  Urban Communities Law Clinic for Small Businesses & Entrepreneurs

The University of Michigan has partnered with the Governor’s Small Business and Entrepreneurs Leaders Council to offer the Urban Communities Clinic as a resource for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Under the direction and instruction of a U of M law professor Dana A Thompson, students in the Urban Communities Clinic (UCC) provide transactional legal services for groups engaged in neighborhood-based community development. Students are responsible for all aspects of client representation; they interview, plan, counsel, negotiate, draft, problem solve, and advocate. Much of the UCC's work involves corporate, tax, real estate, and municipal law. The UCC's clients are mostly nonprofit organizations involved in community development issues such as housing, education, health, and the arts. The Clinic represents clients in the Detroit metropolitan area.

Professor Dana A. Thompson joined the Wayne State University Law School faculty as an Assistant Professor (Clinical)  in August 2006.  She teaches the Small Business Enterprises and Nonprofit Corporations Clinic which she established at the Law School in January 2007.  Professor Thompson is also the Director of the Damon J. Keith Law Collection of African-American Legal History at Wayne State University.

Join us to inquire how this resource may benefit your business and help organize the legal side of your business plan.

We look forward to seeing you!
