You're Invited to CBIC's November Meeting

Tech Town Hall
An Economic Analysis of the Charlottesville Area's High Technology Industry:

Introducing the Results of a New VCU Study
and a Panel Discussion

Reserve your place now for this information-packed, provocative meeting!

The CBIC Tech Town Hall meeting on November 20 will introduce data from a brand-new study by Virginia Commonwealth University's Center for Public Policy at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.

Commissioned by CBIC and the City of Charlottesville Office of Economic Development, the key objective of the study was to understand more about the composition of the high-tech industry and its role in the region's economy.

The project is an important part of our continuing conversation on the benefits of balancing growth in this region through development of the technology business sector. At this luncheon meeting, we will reveal the results of the study, profiling

  • Number of technology workers located here, and University of Virginia divisions engaged in high tech
  • What business and industrial sectors they serve
  • Wage and employment data
  • Economic impact, in actual dollars, of the high tech industry on the Charlottesville region

The presentation will be enhanced by a panel of business executives who will discuss a variety of related issues, including:

  • Recruiting and retaining a skilled and engaged workforce
  • The opportunities and challenges inherent in running a technology company in the region

Panelists are:

Guy Babineau, Director of Engineering, Northrop Grumman/Sperry Marine

Mike Chinn, President, SNL Financial

Rick Freeman, VP Control Systems Technology, GE Fanuc Intelligent Solutions

Linda Hendon, Sales and Marketing Director, Humagen Fertility Diagnostics, Inc.

Moderator: Tom Thompson, Executive Director, Charlottesville Business Innovation Council
