Keynote speaker for the luncheon is Martha Mayhood Mertz - Founder of ATHENA International.  In 1982, Martha Mayhood Mertz, owner of Mayhood/ Mertz Realtors, Inc., found herself to be the only female member of the Lansing, Michigan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

She resolved to recognize the outstanding professional women in her community and to encourage the opening of leadership opportunities for them. Thus, the ATHENA Award® Program was born.

The ATHENA Award’s focus on mentorship distinguishes it from other awards recognizing women in business.  Learn more about the ATHENA Leadership Model and Mertz’s 2009 book, Becoming ATHENA.

Executive Women's Council of Greater Pittsburgh

The mission of EWC is to provide leadership and facilitate opportunities to increase the political and economic power of executive and professional women.

The Executive Women's Council (EWC), Greater Pittsburgh, Inc., was created to provide enrichment, support, and a source of collective influence for executive and professional women in Pittsburgh. The Council was formed in 1975 by a group of women who held responsible positions within the local industry, education, government, private institutions, and the professions. After 30 years, it remains today a unique organization that provides opportunities for qualified women in various fields to meet and interact.

EWC activities include a variety of committees on which to serve, an active communication mechanism via an e-newsletter and listserv, a Women in Leadership Program, a Women on Boards Initiative, an EWC Woman of Achievement Award, and networking opportunities that include educational programs.

We encourage you to learn more about our organization and the wealth of talent that lies within. We are proud that our members are active, accomplished, and award winning citizens who have their finger directly on the pulse of our community.
