EWC along with the FISA Foundation and the Women & Girls Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania will host this informational luncheon on the Standing Firm InitiativeStanding Firm was conceived by several local foundations (FISA, Women and Girls Foundation, Jewish Women’s Foundation, Eden Hall and others) to engage employers in addressing the fact that when abuse is happening at home, it inevitably also affects the workplace (for both victims and abusers), and encourages employers to recognize the warning signs and respond appropriately.  Standing Firm includes things like adopting a workplace violence policy that addresses intimate partner violence, training managers and supervisors to recognize signs of abuse and provide appropriate referrals, making sure HR/EAP is trained and is aware of the local victim service agencies, and then conducting some type of awareness campaign for employees.  I believe EWC can help introduce this program to the business community.  Dr. Pat Cluss is the coordinator of the Standing Firm: The Business Case Against Partner Violence initiative and is right now working on the "quiet" phase of the rollout - trying to engage a number of large local employers - before making a public announcement about the initiative.    Please join me and other EWC members for an informational meeting to learn more about this initiative.

If you plan to attend, please register with Roberta Rollings via email (EWCPgh@aol.com).  For security purposes, all program attendees must pre-register.

Executive Women's Council of Greater Pittsburgh

The mission of EWC is to provide leadership and facilitate opportunities to increase the political and economic power of executive and professional women.

The Executive Women's Council (EWC), Greater Pittsburgh, Inc., was created to provide enrichment, support, and a source of collective influence for executive and professional women in Pittsburgh. The Council was formed in 1975 by a group of women who held responsible positions within the local industry, education, government, private institutions, and the professions. After 30 years, it remains today a unique organization that provides opportunities for qualified women in various fields to meet and interact.

EWC activities include a variety of committees on which to serve, an active communication mechanism via an e-newsletter and listserv, a Women in Leadership Program, a Women on Boards Initiative, an EWC Woman of Achievement Award, and networking opportunities that include educational programs.

We encourage you to learn more about our organization and the wealth of talent that lies within. We are proud that our members are active, accomplished, and award winning citizens who have their finger directly on the pulse of our community.
