Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM (GMT)
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Volunteers in Collections
Do you involve volunteers in your museum? Do they work with collections? Are you interested in engaging new volunteers to work with your collections? Would you like to find out more about how National Museums Scotland involves and supports volunteers to work with collections?
The half-day event will be structured around presentations and discussion of working with collections-based volunteers, as well as touching upon aspects of volunteer recruitment and management. The workshop will offer practical advice and share National Museums practice in this field. There will also be time to meet colleagues and share experience. This workshop, part of our ‘2011 afternoon series’, will look at the value volunteers can add to museum services, focussing on the use of volunteers working with collections in the broadest sense. It aims to help develop participants’ confidence and interest in involving volunteers in collections activities.

When & Where
National Museums Scotland
Partnerships both home and abroad ensure our collections reach as many people as possible.
National Museums Scotland's current partnership activity is extensive. Through touring exhibitions, loans, support and dedicated activity programmes, we are able to introduce our collections to a much wider audience than can walk through the doors of our museums. Our partnerships also help boost skills, enabling us to share knowledge and experience across the museums community.
