Bacterial Transformation Using Fluorescent Proteins

Fluorescent proteins are used often in laboratory research, but what makes this lab special is that Dr. Roger Tsien at UCSD developed a rainbow of colors that we can transform into bacteria in your classroom!

We will provide you with all of the materials you need and necessary training to implement this lab in your classroom.

In this training you will:

  • Learn about fluorescent proteins, bacterial transformation and complete the lab with our support.
  • Learn/review lab techniques commonly used in biotechnology.
  • You will visit the “CAVE” to walk through a 3-D image of a protein!
