Introduction to Pest Management

Every museum should be aware of the threat of pests to museum collections.  It is possible to minimise the risk of damage to objects by responsible action from all museum and gallery staff.

This workshop will be delivered in two parts –

The first aims to improve participant’s general awareness of the damage insects and other pests can cause to the collections and show how all staff can help to prevent serious damage. This session will concentrate on pest identification and practical advice.

The afternoon session will suggest how museum professionals can implement good procedures like object quarantine and a pest monitoring and management programme for responsible collections management.

Please see www.nms.ac.uk/training for full course details

Who is this programme for?

Participants can be from any type of collecting organisation, however the course is aimed primarily at museum and gallery professionals in Scotland. Our aim is to support the development of curatorial confidence across Scotland and ensure good dialogue between the National Museums and the wider sector.
