The final time for this call is TBD.
The Supreme Court, with its “Citizens United” decision, opened the floodgates for unlimited corporate donations to political campaigns. These donations corrupt our legislative process and threaten a hostile takeover of our democracy.
With just four months to the mid-term elections, several efforts are underway to reform campaign finance law and practice: The Fair Elections Now Act (HR. 1826 and S. 752), the Citizens Right to Know Act (S. 3004), the Shareholder Protection Act (H.R.4790), and other efforts aimed at a constitutional amendment and change through corporate resolution.
Please join us on a conference call to hear about the options and how you can help:
Details will go here:
- Congressional Representative Chellie Pingree (D-ME) -- invited
- Actor Sam Waterston, star of the hit TV show “Law and Order” and spokesperson for the campaign
- Arnold Hiatt, former chair and founding member of Business for Social Responsibility, former chair of Stride Rite
- Nick Nyhart, President and CEO of Public Campaign
- Gary Ferdman, Common Cause
- David Brodwin, co-founder, American Sustainable Business Council
The American Sustainable Business Council () supports campaign finance reform to ensure that our legislators work on behalf of broad prosperity and sustainability. Business plays a crucial role in our society; we must protect the democratic process from massive campaign spending that distorts legislators’ priorities and distracts them from the difficult work ahead. We will be launching a campaign on this issue later this month.
