McAlpine Miller: Memories and Futures

New solo show layers American comic imagery with European fashion models to question celebrity money-driven culture

Neo- Figurative Op artist, McAlpine Miller’s new body of works is on show in London’s Mayfair  until

13 October 2010.  

Located appropriately amidst London’s busiest shopping district, Memories and Futures, questions the importance of ideals such as celebrity, fashion and money through layers of imagery representing our fading memories and future hopes.

The London-based, Scottish born artist from the Glasgow School of Art has exhibited extensively in London, Europe and the USA over the last twenty years.  “This new series of work celebrates the culmination of ideas, concentrating and focusing on the fading of one idea into another, with distorted images and abstracted thoughts.”

Miller is concerned with sustainability of mass consumerism. “The comic imagery signifies the unimportance of many of the things we strive for. Through layering I have tried to visually illustrate the shallowness of our lives and question how we move forward”.

16 paintings will be on show.

The work is presented as a Hammerson Artist Initiative.
