What is Appropriations University?

 

At Appropriations University you will hear presentations on federal earmarks and the community priority process for reviewing requests. An earmark is an instruction in a spending bill written by the legislature to fund a particular project. Earmarks have funded a number of projects in the Dayton Region, including highways, buildings, and educational programs.

 

You can attend one or all sessions. Sessions are free but advance reservations are required.

 

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm     PDAC 101: The Community Priority

Process

Learn about the Priority Development and Advocacy Committee (PDAC) process which sets community priorities for federal earmark requests. This session will discuss the process and how you can participate in the upcoming fiscal year 2012 appropriations cycle. (Instructor: Kelly Geers)

 

3:15 pm – 4:30 pm     Earmarks 201: Congressional Project

Funding

Should you seek funding for your project through the Congressional earmark process? This session will also cover how to advocate for your project, Congressional decision-making, whether to hire a lobbyist, and the political controversy over earmarks. (Instructor: Michael Gessel)

 

4:30pm – 5:00 pm      Informal Seminar on Congressional
