Close to Home — Honoring C. Alicia Georges, RN, EdD, FAAN


Catherine Alicia Georges is an educator, practitioner, researcher, and community activist. A much sought after speaker, Georges has lectured on nursing and health care issues throughout the United States, Africa, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. She is a n associate professor and chairperson of the department of nursing at Lehman College, City University of New York, and recently served as project director of a $340, 000 W. K. Kellogg Foundation Grant to support dialogue and action to inform policy makers of the impact of the nurse shortage in minority and underserved communities. Georges , the fifth president of the National Black Nurses Association, is the current president of the National Black Nurses Foundation and serves on many national and state advisory boards. She received a BSN from Seton Hall University, a masters of arts degree in community health nursing administration and supervision from New York University School of Education, Division of Nursing, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Vermont.
