Event Details

The Hand In Hand Series (formerly Family Seminar Series) is an opportunity for caregivers who have received or suspect a fetal alcohol diagnosis to come together and learn about FASD in a supportive and informal setting. This is a five-part series which addresses the basics of life with FASD. Participants will receive a hard copy of the MOFAS Hand in Hand manual, as well as digital materials on a CD.

Internet access is required and you must register as a user for the Virtual Family Center on the MOFAS website by clicking here. Participants will receive a hard copy of the MOFAS Hand in Hand manual, as well as digital materials on a CD. Each week, reading and online interactive assignments are to be completed before the time of the live discussion via internet and phone.

 

Dates: Monday evenings, September 20 - October 18

 

Time: 7:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.

 

Topics: 

September 20-FASD: The Basics

  • Understand the unique strengths and challenges of a child with this disability, with emphasis on how the brain is impacted. Also: Introduction to MOFAS and the Hand in Hand Manual.

September 27-FASD at Home

  • What is sensory integration dysfunction? these disorders are related to many behavioral issues. What can you do to support  your child's sensory challenges?

October4-FASD at School

  • Learn how to create a supportive educational environment, including special education access.

October 11- Building Strong Families

  • Grief and loss issues around FASD will be discussed along with suggestions on how to develop your support and resource network. Characteristics of resilient families will be presented.

October 18- Parent Discussion Panel

  • An adult with FASD and a panel of parents will share their experiences and answer questions about the successes and challenges of life with FASD.
